NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad dropped an 18-10 decision to Mary Washington Wednesday afternoon.

The Eagles stormed out of the gates by scoring the first five goals. After a CNU timeout, the Captains responded with two straight scores to cut the lead to 5-2 with 17:59 left in the first half.

Mary Washington scored four of the final five goals to lead 9-4 at the break.

In the second half, the Eagles scored three in a row to open the second stanza. Christopher Newport scored four of the next five goals to cut the lead to 14-8 with 13:43 left in the game.

UMW finished the game by scoring four of the final six goals for the final margin.

Meghan Harkey led CNU with four goals and two assists. Kaitlin Quigley scored three times, Liz Klemens finished with two goals and one assist, Chrissy Rogers had one goal and Katie Doherty totaled one helper.

Mary Washington out-shot the Captains, 34-26. Gayle Robinson had 10 saves in the cage for Christopher Newport.

The Eagles improve to 10-5 while CNU falls to 9-3. The Captains return to action Saturday when they head to Roanoke with start time set for 1 pm.
