NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The Christopher Newport softball team ran its winning streak to 11 straight Friday with a doubleheader sweep of Averett University.

The Captains won the opener, 10-2, in six innings. CNU then took the nightcap, 13-1, in five innings at Captains Park in Newport News.

CNU, ranked #9 in the nation, has also now won 13 of its last 14 games.

The Captains used the long ball to put away the Cougars, hitting four home runs in the doubleheader. Christopher Newport broke open the first game by scoring four runs in the fifth inning and then ended it with back-to-back solo home runs from Megan Morris and Ashley Mani in the sixth inning. Renee Ashworth also homered for CNU, a two-run shot in the fifth.

Lindsay Kelly, one of five Captains honored on Senior Day, picked up the win in the opener to go to 9-3 on the season.

In the second game, another senior played a large role. Sarah Tipton posted the win by going the distance for the Captains. Tipton improved to 3-0 on the season with the victory.
