Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, VA – Christopher Newport's softball squad, fresh off its USA South Tournament title, was swept at Bridgewater Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles took game one, 6-4.
BC took an early lead with one run in the bottom of the first before the Captains came storming back with four runs in the top of the third. Bridgewater tied the game with three in the bottom of the fourth, pushed across the game-winner in the bottom of the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth.
Katie Moyers finished 3-for-4.
Lindsay Kelly went four innings, allowed four runs on four hits, walked six and struck out three. Sarah Tipton tossed the final two innings, suffering the loss. She allowed two runs on three hits.
BC took the night-cap, 11-4.
The Eagles struck first again with three runs in the bottom of the first. Christopher Newport cut the lead to one, 3-2, with two runs in the top of the second. Kristin Nickloy hit a two-run home run in the second.
Bridgewater scored once in the third, two more in the fifth and capped its scoring with a five-run sixth.
The Captains final two runs came in the sixth as Jessie Atkinson slammed her 14th home run of the year.
Atkinson finished 1-for-3 with two RBI, Nickloy was 1-for-2 with two RBI and Jenn Falin finished 1-for-3.
Kristen Rowe went the distance, allowing 11 runs on 12 hits, walked three and struck out six to fall to 20-2.
Bridgewater improves to 31-7 while CNU falls to 35-7. Christopher Newport returns to action May 7 when they begin play in the NCAA Tournament.
