Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA – Christopher Newport's men's lacrosse squad shut out Randolph, 18-0, Saturday afternoon.
The Captains scored three times in the first and fourth periods while scoring six in each of the second and third stanzas for the shutout win.
Ryan Merrell led CNU with four goals. Mike Laycock scored three times and finished with a game-high five assists, which tied the school record. Zach Hill had three goals and two assists, John Glaser added three goals and one assist, Justin King finished with two goals and two assists and Matt Gleisner had two goals and one assist.
Andrew Evans added one goal and two assists. Rob Duca and Bryant Strong both added one assist each.
Christopher Newport out-shot Randolph, 42-8. Matt Miller played the first 45 minutes in the cage and had one stop, picking up his first win of the year. Jackson Tyler played the final 15 minutes and made two stops.
Randolph falls to 0-8 while the Captains are now 8-5. CNU returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Hampden-Sydney with face-off set for 4 pm.
