FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Christopher Newport's men's tennis squad dropped a 9-0 decision at No. 17 Mary Washington Thursday afternoon.
In doubles action, the Atlantic South's seventh-ranked team of Randy Loden and Kaz Murata defeated the region's fifth-ranked tandem of Eric Shulman and Dusty Nelson (CNU) 8-6 at No. 1; Evan Goff and Bryce Parris defeated John Braig and Lorenzo Sison (CNU) 8-4; Jason Dunn and John James defeated Martin Brown and Thomas Whaling (CNU) 8-4 at No. 3.
In singles, No. 11 Loden defeated No. 7 Shulman (CNU) 6-4, 6-3; Dunn defeated Sison (CNU) 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2; Riley Baver defeated Nelson (CNU) 6-4, 6-1; Murata defeated Brown (CNU) 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4; Goff defeated Braig (CNU) 6-2, 6-1; and Parrish defeated Dylan Young (CNU) 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6.
The Eagles, ranked fourth in the region as well, improve to 14-10 on the year while the Captains, ranked ninth in the region, fall to 9-11.
Christopher Newport returns to action Friday when they take on Shenandoah in a quarterfinal contest in the USA South Tournament at 9 am.
