Methodist Sweeps Women’s Tennis, 9-0

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's tennis squad lost 9-0 to USA South rival Methodist Saturday afternoon on the CNU Courts.

In singles, Kaitlin Flaherty defeated Kayla Connor (CNU) 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1; Shannon Vivian defeated Alannah Suchomel (CNU) 6-0, 6-0; Lindsey Davis defeated Kassi Avent (CNU) 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3; Dana Powell defeated Megan Brooks (CNU) 6-0, 6-0; Heather Brayton defeated Dana Burns (CNU) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5; and Cameron Tinkham defeated Mary Ann Feeney (CNU) 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles action, Flaherty and Vivian defeated Connor and Suchomel (CNU) 8-0; Powell and Davis defeated Avent and Brooks (CNU) 8-1 at No. 2; and Tinkham and Brayton (CNU) defeated Feeney and Burns 8-3.

The Monarchs improve to 16-2 overall and 9-0 in USA South play. The Captains fall to 7-7 on the year and 5-4 in conference action. Christopher Newport returns to play next week as the fifth-seed in the USA South Tournament in Burlington, NC.
