FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Christopher Newport's men's tennis squad defeated Methodist, 8-1, Saturday afternoon.
In singles action, Eric Shulman (CNU) defeated Matthew Taylor 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1; Lorenzo Sison (CNU) defeated Rob Schmidt 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7); Dusty Nelson (CNU) defeated Dylan Knox 6-4. 6-3 at No. 3; Martin Brown (CNU) defeated Justin Campbell 6-1, 6-2; John Braig (CNU) defeated Brad Tulenko 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5; and Dylan Young (CNU) defeated Steven Burkett 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles play, Taylor and Campbell defeated Shulman and Nelson (CNU) 8-4; Sison and Braig (CNU) defeated Schmidt and Knox 8-4 at No. 2; and Brown and Thomas Whaling (CNU) defeated Burkett and Rob Currier 8-6.
With the win, the Captains finish second in USA South play and will be the USA South's No. 2 seed at next week's USA South Tournament.
The Monarchs fall to 10-6 overall and 3-3 in USA South play. CNU improves to 9-9 on the year and 5-1 in conference action. CNU returns to action Sunday when they take on No. 1 Emory at 12 pm.
