NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's tennis squad defeated Hampden-Sydney, 6-3, Saturday afternoon on the CNU Courts.
In singles play, William Moss defeated Eric Shulman (CNU) 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1; Rich Pugh defeated Lorenzo Sison (CNU) 6-4, 6-2; Dusty Nelson (CNU) defeated Shad Harrell 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3; Martin Brown (CNU) came from a set down to defeat Kevin Calhoun 2-6, 6-3, 7-5; Dylan Young (CNU) defeated Zack Pack 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 and John Briag (CNU) defeated Ryan Davis, 4-6, 6-0, and 6-1.
In doubles action, Nelson and Shulman (CNU) defeated Moss and Pugh 8-4; Calhoun and Harrell defeated Braig and Sison (CNU) 9-8 (7-5) at No. 2; and Brown and Young (CNU) snuck by Pack and Tal Covington 8-6.
The Tigers, ranked 13th in the Atlantic South, fall to 1-1 while the Captains, ranked seventh in the region, improve to 2-2.
Christopher Newport heads to Orlando, FL for four matches, beginning with Vassar on Monday at 11 am.
