VA BEACH, VA – Christopher Newport's softball squad swept a pair of games on day one of the Beach Blast Tournament hosted by VA Wesleyan Friday.

CNU began the day by defeating Polytechnic (NY), 13-0, in five innings.

Renee Ashwort finished 4-for-4 with a home run. Katie Moyers was 3-for-3 with a home run and Ashley Mani added another home run.

Sarah Tipton tossed a five-inning complete game no hitter.

In game two, CNU came from behind to defeat No. 25 Rowan, 3-2.

Lindsay Kelly tossed the first five innings and left, trailing 2-1. Kristen Rowe relieved Kelly and tossed two scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win. But it was Jessie Atkinson's two-run home run that put the Captains ahead, 3-2.

Christopher Newport improves to 6-0 on the year. The Captains return to action tomorrow for day two of the Beach Blast Tournament. CNU will take on Randolph-Macon at 12 pm and Wilkes at 4 pm.
