NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's lacrosse squad held off a late rally for an 8-7 win over Marywood Wednesday afternoon at Captains Field.

The Captain led 2-1 after the first and erupted for five goals in the second. Leading 7-2, Marywood was able to find the back of the cage as time expired, cutting the CNU lead to 7-3 at the half.

The Pacers out-scored Christopher Newport, 2-1, in the third, and trailed 8-5. Marywood scored with 11:34 left in the final period to cut the lead to two and tacked on another with just under nine minutes to go, to trail, 8-7.

Marywood had several opportunities to tie the score but the Captains defense and goalkeeper Jackson Tyler thwarted any attempt by the Pacers.

CNU out-shot Marywood, 30-28. Tyler had nine stops in the cage.

John Glaser led the Captains with three goals. Ryan Merrell scored twice. Rob Koster and Will Perkins both finished with one goal and three assists. Mike Laycock scored once and Zach Hill added one assist.

The Pacers fall to 0-1 on the year while Christopher Newport improves to 2-1. The Captains return to action Saturday when they host Susquehanna at 12 pm.
