Softball Takes Two From NC Wesleyan

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Christopher Newport softball squad, ranked 13th in the nation, swept a doubleheader Tuesday at Captains Park in Newport News. CNU beat North Carolina Wesleyan in USA South action by scores of 13-5 and 7-1. The Captains have now won nine straight games and 11 of their last 12. Kristen Rowe, who was named the USA South's Pitcher of the Week this week for the fourth time this season, picked up the win in both games. Rowe entered the opener in relief and went the distance in the nightcap, and is now 15-0 on the season. Rowe struck out nine Bishops in the second game. CNU trailed in the opening game, 5-3, heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Captains erupted for seven runs in the fifth and then ended the game in the sixth with a three-run double from Ashley Mani.. Katie Moyers had three hits in four at bats in the opener, and Taylor Morgan had two hits and knocked in three runs in the second game to lead the Captains. Christopher Newport is now 25-3 on the season and leading the USA South with an 11-1 conference mark. North Carolina Wesleyan falls to 7-15 overall and 2-8 in conference play. The Captains play their final home games of the season Friday, hosting Averett at Captains Park beginning at 2:30 pm.
