NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's softball team swept a double-header from the Avenging Angels of Meredith College on Sunday.  CNU won both games in 5-inning fashion by final scores of 10-2 and 9-0.

Lindsay Kelly picked up the win in Game 1.  Kelly went 4 innings, giving up one unearned run, on four hits.  Kristen Rowe got the nod in Game 2 and went five shutout innings for the win.  With the victory Rowe keeps her perfect record alive and is now 13-0 on the year.

Jessie Atkinson paced the Captains offensively in Game 1 where she hit a two-run homerun, for her second homer in two days and her team leading 11th of the season.  A big hit also came from Ashley Mani, who launched a ball to the opposite field that almost snuck out of the park, but stayed in for a two-run triple.

In Game 2, CNU received support at the plate from Felicia Price who knocked in 2 runs in a tough two-out situation with the bases loaded, giving the Captains some separation.  Also helping out the offensive attack were Mani, with a two-run single and Taylor Morgan, who added an RBI double and a two-hit day.

With the sweep the Captains improve to 23-3 on the season, with a 9-1 conference record.  Meanwhile Meredith falls to 10-12 overall, and 5-5 in the USA South.
