Men’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Hood, 20-5

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's lacrosse team rolled to a 20-5 win over Hood Saturday night.

The Captains struck first 2:40 into the game and answered less than a minute later to tie the score at 1-all. CNU scored the next two before the Blazers found the back of the cage with 7:17 left in the opening period, to trail 3-2.

Christopher Newport responded with 13 unanswered goals to lead 16-2 with 9:22 left in the third. Hood scored two of the next three to cut the lead to 17-5 with 11:21 left in the final period. The Captains scored the final three goals of the game for the final margin.

CNU's 20 goals are the most in program history, and the 15-goal differential is also the largest in program history.

Rob Koster led the Captains with four goals and two assists. John Glaser had three goals and one assist while Justin King scored three times. Zach Hill finished with two goals, Will Perkins scored three times and finished with one assist and Mike Laycock had one goal and assisted on another.

Ryan Merrell had one goal and one assist, and Ray Fitzgerald, Rob Duca and Andrew Evans all scored one goal each.

Christopher Newport out-shot the Blazers, 57-23. Jackson Tyler played the first half and made three saves while Matt Miller played the second half and had six stops.

Hood falls to 1-7 on the year while the Captains improve to 5-2. CNU returns to action Wednesday when they travel to cross-water rival VA Wesleyan with face-off set for 7 pm.
