NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's lacrosse squad held off Vassar, 8-6, in the first lacrosse night game Tuesday night.

The Brewers came out of the gates hot, scoring the first two goals of the game. The Captains responded with four straight of their own to lead 4-2 with 10:50 left in the second period.

Vassar cut the lead to one just 31 seconds later, but CNU countered with three in a row to lead 7-3 with 2:37 left in the third.

The Brewers out-scored Christopher Newport, 3-1 in the final period, but couldn't get any closer than the final margin.

Justin King led CNU with two goals and two assists. Ryan Merrell scored twice and assisted on another. John Glaser had one goal and one assist while Rob Koster, Will Perkins and Nick Lynch all had one goal each.

The Captains out-shot the Brewers, 32-21. Jackson Tyler finished with nine saves in the cage for CNU.

Vassar falls to 2-3 on the year while Christopher Newport improves to 4-2. The Captains return to action Saturday when they host Hood at 7:30 pm.
