Box Score 2 SALISBURY, MD – Christopher Newport's softball team, ranked 13th in the country, won a pair of games on day one of the Sea Gull Invitational Friday afternoon.
The Captains opened the tournament by defeating King's (PA), 13-0, in five innings.
Against King's, Lindsay Kelly tossed all five innings, allowed three hits and struck out eight.
Jessie Atkinson finished 3-for-3 with two home runs and six RBI. Ashley Mani was 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI. Mary Kennedy went 2-for-2 and Jordan Beadles blasted her first career home run.
Sarah Tipton tossed a complete-game, also in five innings, in CNU's 12-4 win over Cabini.
Megan Morris was 2-for-3 and Kristin Nickloy went 3-for-3 with a double and a home run.
Christopher Newport improves to 13-1 on the year. The Captains return to action Saturday for day two of the Sea Gull Invitational. CNU will take on 21st-ranked York (PA) at 11 am and 7th-ranked DePauw at 3 pm.
