Softball Sweeps Salisbury

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's softball squad took both games of a softball doubleheader with Salisbury Wednesday at Captains Park.

CNU took the opener, 9-3, and then held on to win the nightcap, 7-6.

CNU bats produced 16 runs on 20 hits and hit four home runs in the non- conference twin bill, and the Captains improved their record to 11-1 on the season.

Kristin Nickloy hit two home runs in the opener, and knocked in five runs as the Captains defeated the Sea Gulls, 9-3. Megan Morris also homered and drove in two runs for CNU. Lindsay Kelly improved to 3-1 on the season as she pitched into the sixth inning before being relieved by Kristen Rowe, who picked up the save.

Salisbury's Stacey Malarkey hit a two-run home run in game one.

In game two, Ashley Mani smacked a three-run home run and Kristen Rowe went the distance as CNU held on for a 7-6 win. Rowe improved to 7-0 on the season, despite giving up six runs on nine hits. Salisbury cut into a 7-4 Captains lead, rallying for two runs in the top of the seventh before Rowe wiggled out of trouble.

Salisbury's Ali Ritter had four hits in four at bats in game 2, and Kristen Lord hit a two-run home run. The Sea Gulls fell to 4-4 on the season with the losses.

Christopher Newport travels to Salisbury for the Sea Gull Invitational beginning Friday. The Captains will open with Cabrini at noon Friday and then play King's College at 3 pm.
