LEXINGTON, VA – Christopher Newport's men's tennis squad dropped a tough 5-4 decision to 19th-ranked Washington & Lee Sunday afternoon.
In singles play, Eric Shulman (CNU) defeated Jonathon Gaffney 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1; Lorenzo Sison (CNU) defeated Jamie McCardell 6-4, 6-3; Brent Meyers defeated Dusty Nelson (CNU) 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3; Jeremy Becht defeated Martin Brown (CNU) 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (10-8); Ben Fass defeated Dylan Young (CNU) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Michael Freeman defeated John Briag (CNU) 6-1; 6-0.
In doubles action, Shulman and Nelson (CNU) defeated McCardell and Tim Watson 8-5; Sison and Braig (CNU) defeated Meyers and Gaffney 8-6 at No. 2 and Becht and Alex Brooke defeated Brown and Young 9-7.
The Captains fall to 1-2 while the Generals improve to 5-1. CNU returns to action Saturday when they host Hampden-Sydney on the CNU Courts beginning at 12 pm.
