NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball team played to a hard fought tie with the Rowan University Profs on a cold Friday afternoon at Captains Park. The final score was 9-9 after 8 innings, when the game was called due to darkness.
Josh Brinkman got the start for the Captains and went 6 strong innings, giving up only 1 run on 6 hits, while striking out 4 batters.

After neither team scored in the 3rd and 4th innings, the Captains expanded their lead to 5-0 thanks to a 3-run home run by Eric Cole that scored Trae Bailey and Hutchison.
Bailey and Despins each added RBI singles in the bottom of 6th inning, putting the Captains up 7-1. In the bottom of the 7th the Captains continued their offensive onslaught with a 2-RBI double by Michael Romett bringing the Captains' lead back to 6 at 9-3.
Rowan mounted a 6-run comeback that tied the game at 9 in the top of the 8th inning. Then in the bottom of the 8th the Captains loaded the bases with only one out, but a fielder's choice put-out and a strikeout ended the inning for the Captains, leaving the game knotted at 9.
