NEWPORT NEWS, VA -
The Bishops of
North Carolina Wesleyan defeated the Captains of
Christopher Newport Saturday, 35-7, to remain unbeaten in the
USA South Athletic Conference. NCWC is now 3-0 and 4-2 overall following the dominating effort at POMOCO Stadium on the CNU campus.
North Carolina Wesleyan scored a touchdown in each of the first three quarters while the Bishops defense shutout the Captains until early in the fourth quarter. Christopher Newport was victimized by seven turnovers, and falls to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
"We just made way too many mistakes," CNU Coach
Matt Kelchner said. "They're a very good football team, and we helped them by giving up the ball seven times."
Senior running back Teron Bush scored twice for the Bishops while senior quarterback Bo Jordan threw for two scores. Jordan was 23 of 37 for the day for 323 yards passing. He hit senior Orlando Webb and junior Brian Haywood for scores.
North Carolina Wesleyan's defense concluded the scoring with a 40-yard interception return from Eric Williams.
CNU's only score came on a 48-yard touchdown run from senior
Tunde Ogun, his 34th career score. Ogun finished with 131 yards on 27 carries and went over the 3,000 yard mark for his career. He is the all-time leading rusher in CNU history and the all-time touchdown leader.
The Captains travel to
Greensboro next Saturday for a
night game vs.
Greensboro College. Game time is set for 7 pm
