ARLINGTON, VA – Christopher Newport's women's basketball squad rolled past Arcadia on day two of the Marymount Holiday Tournament Sunday afternoon by a score of 77-43.
The Captains scored the first bucket of the game and never looked back. CNU led at the break by 29, 46-17. Chelsie Schweers scored 19 of her 21 points in the first half.
It was much of the same in the second half, with Christopher Newport leading by more than 40 points several times.
Schweers finished with 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 5-of-7 from behind the arc. She also had six rebounds and three assists. Paige Childers finished with a season-high 12.
CNU shot 32-of-64 (50%) from the floor, 7-of-9 (78%) from behind the arc and 6-of-10 from the line.
Arcadia finished 12-of-47 (26%) from the field, 3-of-11 (27%) on three-pointers and 16-of-23 (70%) from the line. Caitlin Sparks led Arcadia with 20 points and six rebounds. Chanel Murphy added 12 and seven boards.
Arcadia falls to 1-9 while the Captains improve to 5-2. CNU returns to action next Saturday as they begin conference play at Mary Baldwin with tip set for 2 pm.
