GREENSBORO, NC – Christopher Newport's women's basketball team lost an 87-58 decision to Greensboro Saturday afternoon.
For the Captains, it was their second loss in three games.
Greensboro led 33-30 with 4:16 to play in the first and held CNU scoreless the rest of the way while scoring 13 unanswered to take a 46-30 lead into the locker room at the break.
In the second half, the Pride continued to capitalize on the momentum it took into halftime and increased its lead in the second stanza.
Leading 56-41 with 14:50 left in the game, Greensboro went on a 13-0 run to take a 69-41 lead with 11:31 remaining in the game. GC's largest lead was 31 points, 85-54, with 3:47 to go in the contest.
For the game, the Pride shot 31-of-75 (41%) from the field, 9-of-22 (41%) from behind the arc and 16-of-22 (73%) from the free throw line. Dione Eccles led GC with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Kim Enoch had 17 points and 12 points and Danielle Duncan added 19 off the bench.
Christopher Newport shot 23-of-62 (37%) from the floor, 3-of-10 (30%) from long range and 9-of-12 (75%) from the charity stripe. Chelsie Schweers paced CNU with 19 points and seven rebounds. Jessica Moore finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.
The Pride, who have now won 10 in a row, improve to 15-1 overall and 9-0 in conference play. CNU falls to 12-4 on the year and 7-2 in the USA South. The Captains conclude the weekend road trip Sunday when they take on Methodist Sunday at 2 pm.
