Volleyball Sweeps A Pair Of USA South Matches

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's volleyball squad, ranked 21st in the nation, swept a pair of matches against Ferrum and Averett at the Freeman Center Saturday afternoon.

 

CNU defeated Ferrum 3-0 by scores of 25-11, 25-14, and 25-18.

 

Ellen Koch paced the Captains with eight kills. Allie Wolfe finished with seven kills and 12 digs. Jessie Heavenrich led the way with 21 assists and Ryann Lowery totaled 14 helpers.

 

Christopher Newport swept Averett in the nightcap, winning by scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-15.

 

Koch once again led the way, this time with 14 kills and five digs. Becca Davis finished with six kills and Liz Bush added nine. Wolfe had a team-high 13 digs while Mary Horner totaled 11. Heavenrich had a match-high 17 assists while Lowery added 15.

 

The Captains improve to 13-3 overall and 8-0 in the USA South. CNU returns to action Sunday when they travel to Crozet, VA to take on Washington & Lee in a neutral site match which will be played at Western Albemarle High School.
