NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's soccer team took down the Hornets of Shenandoah in a 1-0 win on Wednesday afternoon.
The Captains opened up conference play against SU and emerged victorious after a scoreless first half.
While the score was knotted at zero heading into the second half, CNU was bound to score soon as they were leading in shots at the time, 12-1.
Sure enough, in the 47th minute Shelby Walters was able to get a shot past SU keeper, Kat Terza, and put the Captains up 1-0.
Christopher Newport would threaten to add to their tally for the rest of the game, but the score remained 1-0 for the rest of the contest. CNU played a very aggressive game, out-shooting the Hornets 33-1.
Dineen Sampson and Erin Wojtkun split time in goal, each playing for one half of the game.
CNU now improves to 1-0 in the USA South, 3-0 at home, and 3-4-1 overall.
Christopher Newport hits the road this weekend for two games in Raleigh, NC. CNU will face Meredith on Saturday and Peace on Sunday.
