Women's Soccer Upends Roanoke, 4-1

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's soccer squad won its second straight match Saturday night with a 4-1 win over visiting Roanoke.

The Captains got on the board early when Emily Chesbro punched home a shot off of a goalie deflection in the ninth minute.

The Maroons Meredith Grunewald tied the score in the 22nd minute.

Kendall Dishaw scored the eventual game-winner in the 25th minute on a shot from about 20 yards away.

Jenn Campbell added an insurance goal in the 39th minute with Shelby Walters assisting. Dishaw scored in the 90th minute with Meghan Conheeney assisting.

Roanoke out-shot the CNU, 13-11. Dineen Sampson had six saves in goal.

The Maroons fall to 3-4-1 overall and Christopher Newport improves to 2-4-1. CNU returns to action Wednesday as they return home for its USA South opener at Shenandoah with kick-off set for 4 pm.
