FERRUM, VA – Christopher Newport's volleyball squad opened USA South play Friday by sweeping a pair of matches at a USA South Tri-Match hosted by Ferrum College.
The Captains opened up the afternoon by defeating Methodist, 3-1. CNU won by scores of 25-18, 25-20, 22-25, and 25-20.
Ellen Koch paced CNU with 12 kills. Becca Davis finished with nine kills and Meghan Puckli had eight kills. Mary Horner had a game-high 25 digs while Allie Wolfe contributed 14 digs. Ryann Lowery led all players with a game-high 26 assists as Jessie Heavenrich contributed 14 assists. Lowery also had five aces and seven digs.
Christopher Newport finished the day by sweeping Greensboro, 3-0. The Captains won by scores of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-10.
Wolfe led CNU with 10 kills and six digs. Davis finished with eight kills and Puckli added six in the win. Horner finished with nine digs. Heavenrich finished with 19 assists while Lowery added 17.
The Captains improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the USA South. CNU heads to Raleigh, NC Saturday for a USA South Tri-Match at Peace where the Captains will play Meredith and Peace.
