NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's soccer team and New Jersey City played to a 0-0 double overtime tie Sunday evening on day two of the Joe Pombriant/CNU Classic.
The two teams played an evenly matched game and both squads had several chances to score. The Captains out-shot the Gothic Nights, 10-6.
New Jersey City won the tournament by virtue of goal differential, as they defeated Methodist Saturday, 4-0, and CNU defeated the College of New Jersey, 3-1.
Matt Tengs was not called upon to make a save as he earned his first shutout of the year.
The Gothic Knights were unable to get a shot on goal while Christopher Newport had just three.
New Jersey City improves to 4-2-1 on the year while CNU is now 4-1-1. The Captains return to action Wednesday when they travel to cross-water rival VA Wesleyan with kick-off set for 7 pm.
