Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's field hockey team, ranked 13th in the nation, dropped a tough 2-0 decision to # 20 Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon, playing the game on the school's brand new field turf facility.
It was a 0-0 game until the 32nd minute when Savannah Ruth got the Bullets on the board. CNU would play GC tightly for the rest of the game, but could not find a way to get the ball in the cage.
Despite the Captains close play, GC would get another point on the board with a penalty stroke by Anne Ritter in the 61st minute.
The Bullets outshot CNU by a total of 15-8. Katelyn Yandle managed two shots for the Captains, and Emma Stout made four saves in goal.
CNU will play again tomorrow at 1pm as they battle the Division II Catawba Indians. The Captains are now 1-3 on the year.
