Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches On Day One Of CNU Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's volleyball squad split a pair of five-set matches on day one of the CNU Invitational Friday.

 

The Captains, ranked 24th in the nation, defeated Southern Virginia 3-2 in the tournament's opening match.

 

CNU won by scores of 21-25, 25-23, 26-28, 25-23, and 15-13.

 

Allie Wolfe paced Christopher Newport with 20 kills and finished with a .295 attack percentage. She also had 23 digs. Liz Bush finished with 10 kills. Mary Horner had 18 digs and Sarah Coffey finished with 15 digs.

 

Ryann Lowery added 28 assists, five aces and eight digs. Jessie Heavenrich totaled 21 assists and 10 digs.

 

The Captains then lost 3-2 in the nightcap to third-ranked Emory. Complete stats will not be available until Saturday.

 

CNU is now 3-3 on the year and will take on West VA Wesleyan Saturday at 12 and finish the tournament by taking on Franklin & Marshall at 6 pm.
