No. 13 Field Hockey Falls At Salisbury 2-1 In Overtime

SALISBURY, MD – Christopher Newport's field hockey team, ranked 13th in the nation, dropped a heart-breaking 2-1 decision to nationally ranked Salisbury in overtime on Wednesday.

After a scoreless first half, the Captains drew first blood as Haylie Black scored on a pass from Kylie Cale, putting CNU up 1-0 in the 45th minute.  Then, with the clock at 52:32 SU evened the score at 1 goal a piece when Lauren Correll knocked a shot in, off a pass from Kandice Hancock.

After assisting on the Seagulls first goal, Hancock came back for more as she scored the game winner, just four minutes into the overtime period.

The biggest difference in the game was the fact that the Seagulls out-shot the Captains 21-2.

Emma Stout had seven saves for the CNU, while teammate Elexa Nosonchuck posted 5 of her own.

The Captains fall to 1-2 on the season and will host Gettysburg in their first home game on CNU's brand new turf field, this Saturday at 3:30pm.
