FREDRICKSBURG, VA - Christopher Newport's women's soccer team took on the Eagles of Mary Washington on Wednesday afternoon, and played to a double-overtime tie.
After a scoreless first period, the Captains' lone goal was scored by junior Chelsea Brown at 47:01 on a penalty kick. The goal was Brown's first of the season. The excitement was short-lived though when less than 2 minutes later, UMW's Hannah Pearson scored at 48:32.
The Captains out-shot UMW 11-9, while CNU senior Erin Wojtkun made three saves in goal.
After the tie, the Eagles remain unbeaten on the season at 2-0-2. Meanwhile, Christopher Newport moves to 0-2-1 on the year, still in search of their first victory.
The Captains will travel to Lynchburg on Friday to take on the Hornets of Lynchburg College at 7pm.
