OWINGS MILLS, MD – Christopher Newport's field hockey squad dropped its season opener, 8-2 to Johns Hopkins, on day one of the Black Eyed Susan Tournament hosted by Stevenson University Saturday afternoon.

JHU scored four times in the first half to take a 4-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Blue Jays scored the first four goals in the second half and lead by as many as eight before the Captains scored twice in the final two minutes.

Mary Keenehan and Katelyn Yandle scored for CNU.

Johns Hopkins out-shot Christopher Newport, 21-7. Emma Stout had six saves in the cage for the Captains.

JHU improves to 1-0 while CNU falls to 0-1. The Captains opponent for Sunday has yet to be determined.
