FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Christopher Newport's softball squad dropped a 5-2 decision to Neumann on the first day of the NCAA Regionals hosted by Methodist University Thursday.

The Knights struck first with two runs in the second. Neumann drew back to back walks and both runners scored on a double with two outs.

In the third, Neumann drew a walk and another batter reached on an error. Angela Sebasto's triple scored both runners to put the Knights ahead, 4-0.

The Captains cut the lead in half with two runs in the fifth. Taylor Morgan delivered a two-run single, cutting Neumann's lead to 4-2.

The Knights plated an insurance run in the sixth on a pinch-hit single with the bases loaded.

Sebasto improved to 20-1 on the year by tossing a complete-game for Neumann.

Jessie Atkinson paced CNU going 2-for-3. Meghan Morris, Katie Moyers, Margit Severin, Morgan and Mani each finished with one hit.

Janet Fairchild suffered the loss, tossing two innings, allowing two runs on one hit, walking three and striking out two. Lindsay Kelly and Kristen Bruce both pitched in relief.

The Knights improve to 28-12. Christopher Newport falls to 33-9-1. CNU will play Emory at 10 am Friday.
