Box Score DANVILLE, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball squad dropped a 12-1 decision to Lynchburg late Thursday night on day two of the NCAA South Regional.
The Captains scored there only run of the game in the top of the second when Chris Despins led off the inning with his 10th home run. The Hornets wasted no time in tying the score in the bottom of the inning on an unearned run.
LC scored the eventual game-winner in the bottom of the fifth and then pushed across five in the sixth, four in the seventh and one more in the eighth.
Despins finished 2-for-3. Ryan McDougal and Thomas Drewry both had one hit for CNU.
Steven Millerleile went four innings, allowed one run on one hit, walked seven and struck out two. Josh Brinkman suffered the loss in relief, allowing six runs on four hits.
The Hornets improve to 32-11 while Christopher Newport falls to 29-13. The Captains will meet top-seed Salisbury in an elimination game at noon on Friday. The Hornets will play the winner of that game at 7:30 pm.
