NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's lacrosse squad finished the 2008 season with a 15-5 loss to cross-water rival VA Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.

CNU finishes the year with its best record in program history at 8-7.

The game was tight for the first 37 minutes as the Marlins led by as many as two several times, including a 6-4 edge with 8:07 left in the third period.

VA Wesleyan took control and out-scored the Captains 9-1 over the final 23 minutes.

Chris Quigley paced Christopher Newport with two goals and one assist. Justin King scored twice and Jon Ims finished with one score. Ray Fitzgerald contributed one assist.

The Marlins out-shot CNU, 44-26. Matt Miller had 14 saves in the cage for the Captains.

VWC improves to 9-6 on the year.
