Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball squad let a 3-0 lead slip away as Mary Washington came from behind to defeat the Captains, 5-3, Friday afternoon.
CNU scored single runs in the third, four and seventh innings. Joey Martin's RBI single in the third, Trae Bailey's solo shot in the fourth and Martin's infield single in the seventh provided all of the Captains scoring.
Steven Millerleile limited the Eagles to just one hit through the first six innings of play but UMW's bats finally came alive in the seventh as the Eagles scored all five of its runs on five hits in the inning.
Martin finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and David Fennessey was 2-for-2 to lead Christopher Newport.
Millerleile tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits, walked three and struck out four. He falls to 3-3 on the year.
Mary Washington improves to 25-12 on the year while the Captains fall to 27-10. CNU returns to the diamond Saturday when they travel to 5th-ranked Salisbury. First pitch is scheduled for 2 pm.
