#24 Men's Tennis Falls 6-3 To No. 11 Mary Washington

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's tennis squad, ranked 24th in the nation, dropped a 6-3 decision to No. 11 Mary Washington Wednesday afternoon on the CNU Courts.

 

The match began with doubles, as the Eagles won two of the three matches. Evan Goff and Bryce Parrish defeated Lorenzo Sison and Dusty Nelson (CNU) 8-4 at No. 2 and Jason Dunn and John James defeated John and Jacob Braig (CNU) 9-7 at No. 3. The Captains duo of Eddie Glidewell and John Mook (CNU), ranked third in the Atlantic-South, defeated the regions No. 4 team of Randy Loden and Kaz Murata 8-4 at the No. 1 position.

 

In singles, James, ranked sixth in the region, defeated Glidewell (CNU), ranked 12th, 6-4, 6-3; Mook (CNU) defeated the region's No. 1 ranked player, Loden, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2; Dunn defeated Jacob Braig (CNU) 4-6, 6-0, 6-2; Sison (CNU) defeated Eddie Carver 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 4; Goff defeated Ricky Connor (CNU) 6-3, 6-2; and Zach Detweiler defeated Nelson (CNU) 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.

 

For Mook, it was the second time he has defeated Loden in as many years. Loden is also ranked fifth in the nation in singles.

 

The Eagles improve to 12-4 on the year while the Captains fall to 9-3. CNU returns to action Friday when they host NC Wesleyan on the CNU Courts with start time set for 2 pm.
