Men's Tennis Ends Regular Season With 6-3 Win Over Hampden-Sydney

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's tennis squad finished regular season play with a 6-3 win over Hampden-Sydney on the CNU Courts Monday afternoon.

 

The win gives the Captains 17 on the year. It's the second most ever in program history. CNU won 19 matches in 1982.

 

In singles play, Will Moss defeated Eddie Glidewell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1; Rich Pugh defeated Jacob Braig (CNU) 6-2, 7-6 (7-1); Lorenzo Sison (CNU) defeated Shad Harrell 6-1, 6-0 at No.3; Dusty Nelson (CNU) defeated Zach Pack 6-1, 6-1; Ricky Connor (CNU) defeated Tal Covington 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) at No. 5 and John Braig (CNU) defeated Andrew McLeod 6-1, 6-3.

 

In doubles action, Moss and Pugh defeated Sison and Nelson 8-5; Jacob Braig and Connor (CNU) defeated Harrell and Pack 8-5 at No. 2; and John Braig and Glidewell defeated Covington and Richie Holzapfel 8-3.

 

The Tigers fall to 12-2 as Christopher Newport improves to 17-3. The Captains return to action Saturday when they take on the winner of No. 4 Averett/No. 5 Greensboro at 2 pm in Burlington, NC at the Burlington Tennis Center.
