DANVILLE, VA – Christopher Newport's women's tennis squad wrapped up USA South play with a 9-0 win at Averett Sunday.
The Captains will be the No. 2 seed at this week's USA South Tournament set to begin Thursday in Burlington, NC.
In singles action, Lindsey Pantele (CNU) defeated Kerrie Fallen 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1; Frannie Shivar (CNU) defeated Niina Marttila 6-0, 6-0; Lisa Dyke (CNU) defeated Kayla Craddock 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3; Brittany Stevens (CNU) defeated Eliisa Alatalo 6-1, 6-0; Chandler Long (CNU) defeated Hannimari Savola 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Kayla Connor (CNU) dropped Megan Brady 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Pantele and Dyke (CNU) defeated Fallen and Craddock 8-0; Shivar and Stevens (CNU) defeated Marttila and Alatalo 8-1 at No. 2; and Long and Connor (CNU) defeated Savola and Brady 8-0.
The Cougars are now 1-11 overall and fall to 1-8 in USA South play. The Captains improve to 18-1 overall and 8-1 in the conference. CNU concludes its regular season schedule Tuesday when they host Salisbury at 3:30 pm on the CNU Courts.
