Men's Tennis Wraps Up USA South Regular Season Crown, Downs Averett, 8-1

DANVILLE, VA – Christopher Newport's men's tennis squad wrapped up the USA South regular season title Sunday afternoon with an 8-1 win at Averett.

 

It's the 11th time in school history the Captains have shared or won out-right the regular season title.

 

In singles play, John Mook (CNU) defeated Erick Ocampo 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at No.1; Eddie Glidewell (CNU) defeated Marcelo Diaz 6-2, 6-7 (5-9) 6-4; Xavier Ruiz defeated Lorenzo Sison (CNU) 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3; Dusty Nelson (CNU) defeated Robbie Ferris 6-0, 6-0; Ricky Connor (CNU) defeated Jeff Imgrund 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and Kevin Repper (CNU) defeated Will Sanford 6-3, 6-4.

 

In doubles action, Glidewell and Mook (CNU) defeated Diaz and Ruiz 8-0; Nelson and Sison (CNU) defeated Ocampo and Ferris 8-3 at No. 2 and Connor and Repper (CNU) defeated Imgrund and Sanford 8-1.

 

The Cougars fall to 4-12 overall and 3-3 in the USA South. The Captains are 16-3 overall and 6-0 in conference action. Christopher Newport returns to action Monday when they host Hampden-Sydney at 2 pm.
