Box Score GREENSBORO, NC – Christopher Newport's men's lacrosse squad captured its third win in a row as they held off Greensboro, 13-11, Saturday afternoon.
CNU jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first period and led by four, 7-3, at the break.
In the second half, both teams scored four times each in the third, but the Pride tried to work their way back into the game as they out-scored the Captains, 4-2, in the final period.
GC cut the lead to 11-10 with 9:20 left in the game, but Christopher Newport responded with two goals over the next four minutes and held on for the win.
Justin King paced CNU with four goals and two assists. John Ims scored four times as Patrick Cavanaugh found the back of the cage twice and assisted on another. Ryan Merrell also scored twice.
Matt Gleisner finished with one goal and Rob Duca added three assists.
Greensboro out-shot the Captains, 44-36. Matt Miller had 12 stops for Christopher Newport.
GC falls to 3-9 on the year and the Captains improve to 8-5. CNU returns to action next Saturday when they host Randolph-Macon at 1 pm.
