Box Score 2 RALEIGH, NC – Christopher Newport's softball squad swept a doubleheader at USA South foe, Meredith, Thursday afternoon.
The Captains took game one, 15-2, in five innings.
CNU led 3-2 after one inning of play and scored 10 in the top of the second to run away with the win.
Mary Kennedy finished 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and three runs scored. Katie Moyers was 2-for-3 with three runs and a run driven in. Taylor Morgan went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Danielle Steel was 2-for-2 with two driven in. Megan Morris finished 2-for-4 and Ashley Mani was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Sarah Tipton picked up the win, allowing two hits and striking out one to improve to 4-0 in the circle.
Christopher Newport took game two, 8-1.
The Captains scored one run in the first, third, fifth, sixth and seventh innings while plating three in the second.
Severin was 1-for-2 with a solo home run. Moyers had a hit and drove in two.
Lindsay Kelly went four innings, allowed no runs on three hits, walked none and struck out five to improve to 7-1.
Meredith falls to 9-21 overall and 3-9 in the USA South. CNU improves to 27-8-1 on the year and 12-3-1 in conference play.
Christopher Newport returns to the diamond Saturday when they host Methodist beginning at 2 pm.
