Box Score BRIDGEWATER, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball team lost a pitchers duel falling 3-2 at Bridgewater, Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead with a single run in the first. The Captains evened the score in the third when Trae Bailey hit his fifth home run of the year.
With the bases loaded in the top of the seven, Ryan McDougal drew a walk, forcing in Travis Medina to give CNU a 2-1 lead.
BC, however, wasted no time as they pushed across the tying run in the bottom of the inning. The tying run scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the inning.
The Eagles scored the winning run in the eighth on a run scoring double.
Christopher Newport managed just four hits. Bailey, Chris Despins, McDougal, and Medina each had one hit.
Steven Millerleile tossed six solid innings in his first start since March 21. He allowed one run on six hits, walked four and struck out six to earn a no decision. Kyle Baumann pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs on three hits, walked one and struck out one. He falls to 2-1 on the year.
Bridgewater improves to 14-11-1. The Captains drop to 19-6. CNU returns to action Saturday when they head to Methodist with first pitch set for 1 pm.
