SALISBURY, MD – Christopher Newport's softball squad swept a pair of games on day one of the Sea Gull Classic Friday, but due to heavy rains moving into the Salisbury area, Saturday's games have been postponed with no make-up date announced.

In the first game, the Captains defeated Cabrini, 10-1, in five innings.

Kristen Bruce picked up the win tossing four innings and recording eight strikeouts.

Margit Severin led the way offensively going 2-for-3 with a double. Mary Kennedy finished 2-for-3 and Ashley Mani was 2-for-2.

CNU defeated Allegheny 9-3 in game two.

Janet Fairchild was the winning pitcher, picking up her second win of the year.

Severin paced Christopher Newport going 3-for-3 with another double and a home run. Katie Moyers finished 2-for-2 with three steals, Taylor Morgan went 2-for-3 with a double, and Kennedy finished 2-for-4.

The Captains are now 6-2 on the year. CNU returns to action Wednesday, March 12, when they head back to the Eastern Shore to take on Salisbury with first pitch set for 2 pm.
