Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's lacrosse team didn't let 30 mile per hour winds and torrential down pours affect its play as the Captains rolled to a 15-5 win over visiting Tri-State University Saturday afternoon.
The game began under cloudy skies which gave way to heavy down pours at the start of the second period and with it, came 30 mile per hour winds. The weather would not bother CNU or Andrew Evans as the Christopher Newport freshman attacker scored a school record six goals and recorded an assist on another goal.
The Captains trailed 2-1 after the first and scored five times in the second and took a 6-3 lead at halftime. CNU would score five more in the third and four in the fourth.
Ryan Merrell finished with two goals and two assists, Matt Gleisner added two goals and one helper and Chris Quigley finished with two scores.
Patrick Cavanaugh had one goal and three assists, Justin King and Jackson Kibler each totaled one goal and one helper and Rob Duca had one assist as well.
Christopher Newport out-shot the Thunder, 49-15. Matt Miller recorded his second win, recording six saves while playing 50 minutes. Ray Ralph and Brendan Tully each had one save in goal for the Captains.
Tri-State falls to 0-3 on the year while CNU improves to 2-3. Christopher Newport returns to action Wednesday when they host Hendrix at 3 pm.
