NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's tennis squad, ranked 20th in the nation, shutout Division II Chowan University 9-0 Thursday afternoon on the CNU Courts.
In singles play, Eddie Glidewell (CNU) defeated Darick Gilman 6-1, 6-1 at No.1; Jacob Braig (CNU) defeated Rich Abolins 6-1, 6-1; John Mook (CNU) defeated Mike Fencil 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3; Lorenzo Sison (CNU) defeated Jonathon Walker 6-0, 6-0; Dusty Nelson defeated Adam Moneypenny 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and John Braig (CNU) defeated Tim Lanrent-Russell 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, Glidewell and Mook (CNU) defeated Gilman and Abolins 8-2; Nelson and Sison (CNU) defeated Moneypenny and Walker 8-0 at No. 2 and Ricky Connor and Dylan Young (CNU) defeated Fencil and Lanrent-Russell 8-1.
The Hawks fall to 1-2 overall while the Captains improve to 3-1. CNU returns to the courts Wednesday, March 12, when they travel to Piedmont with start time set for 3 pm.
