Softball Splits With Peace

RALEIGH, NC – Christopher Newport's softball team split a pair of USA South games at Peace Saturday afternoon.

 

The Captains won game one, 5-0.

 

CNU scored once in the first and two each in the second and seventh innings.

 

Renee Ashworth finished 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Katie Moyers and Danielle Steel each finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Megan Morris was 1-for-4 with a run driven in.

 

Janet Fairchild tossed a complete-game seven hitter. The senior hurler also walked one and struck out three. She's now 4-3 on the year.

 

The Pacers came from behind to win game two, 5-4. Christopher Newport led 2-1 after three and 3-1 after the top of the sixth. PC scored four times in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-3 lead. CNU's comeback was cut short as they could only push across one run in the top of the seventh.

 

Mary Kennedy finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and run driven in. Moyers and Steel each had one hit and one RBI for the Captains.

 

Lindsay Kelley tossed four innings, allowed one run on five hits, walked one and struck out four and took a no decision. Kristen Rowe suffered the loss in relief, throwing one inning and walking three batters.

 

Peace is now 20-10 on the year and 6-2 in conference play. Christopher Newport is now 18-7-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the USA South. The Captains return to action Sunday as they take on Meredith at 1 pm.
