Baseball Falls 8-4 At Hampden-Sydney

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball team saw its eight-game winning streak snapped Thursday when they fell 8-4 at Hampden-Sydney.

 

The Tigers struck early and often as they scored single runs in the first and second innings, two more in the third and three in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead.

 

The Captains finally got on the scoreboard with a run in the sixth and HSC responded with a single run in the seventh to lead 8-1. CNU scored once more in the eighth and added two more in the ninth for the final margin.

 

Brandon Berry went four innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits to take the loss.

 

Trae Bailey finished 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Mike Giarrizzi went 2-for-4 with a run and Eric Cole was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

 

Christopher Newport falls to 18-5 on the year. Hampden-Sydney improves to 11-17.

 

The Captains return to action Saturday when they host Greensboro in the first of a two-game set. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
