NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's tennis team ran its winning streak to 11 to begin the year with a 7-2 win over cross-water rival VA Wesleyan Tuesday afternoon on the CNU Courts.
In singles action, Lindsey Pantele (CNU) defeated Imee Bautista 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1; Frannie Shivar (CNU) defeated Megan Crook 6-4, 6-2; Keira McMillan defeated Stefanie Leblang (CNU) 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3; Lisa Dyke (CNU), two-time USA South Rookie of the Week, defeated Shannon Sabo 6-1, 6-1; Meredith Willett defeated Brittany Stevens (CNU) 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5; and Chandler Long (CNU) defeated Oliva Casero 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles action, Leblang and Pantele (CNU) defeated the Atlantic-South's No. 13 ranked squad, Bautista and Crook 8-2; Shivar and Stevens (CNU) defeated McMillan and Sabo 8-0 at No. 2; and Dyke and Long (CNU) defeated Casero and Willet 8-3.
The Marlins fall to 7-4 overall while the Captains improve to 11-0. CNU returns to action Wednesday when they head to Staunton to take on the Squirrels of Mary Baldwin in a USA South match. Start time is 2 pm.
