Box Score 2 VA BEACH, VA – Christopher Newport's softball squad dropped a pair of games at cross-water rival VA Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.
The Marlins took game one, 6-2.
VA Wesleyan scored four in the second and two in the fourth while CNU scored single runs in the third and fifth innings.
Renee Ashworth finished 3-for-3 and Mary Kennedy went 2-for-4 and scored both runs.
Janet Fairchild dropped to 3-3 in the circle. She pitched a complete-game, allowed six runs on nine hits, walked five and struck out two.
In game two, VWC won it by a score of 5-0.
The Marlins scored three runs in the second and two more in the sixth. CNU managed just four hits by four different players.
Lindsay Kelly tossed six innings, allowed five runs, three earned, on nine hits, walked one and struck out two.
VA Wesleyan improves to 15-3 while Christopher Newport drops to 13-6-1. The Captains return to action Tuesday when they host Mary Washington beginning at 3 pm.
