Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – Christopher Newport's men's lacrosse squad had its three-match winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon, falling 12-5 to St. Mary's.
The Captains scored the first four goals of the game, but were unable to hold on to the lead. The Seahawks held CNU scoreless for the entire second period as St. Mary's scored six unanswered to take a 6-4 lead at halftime.
The Seahawks scored the first goal of the second half to lead by three. Christopher Newport scored its only goal of the second half just two minutes later to cut the lead to 7-5. St. Mary's scored the game's final five goals for the final margin.
Patrick Cavanaugh led the Captains with three goals. Justin King finished with a goal and one assist and Ryan Merrell scored once.
St. Mary's out-shot CNU, 45-22. Matt Miller had eight saves in goal for Christopher Newport.
The Seahawks improve to 4-5 on the year while CNU falls to 4-5. The Captains return to action Wednesday as they return to Captains Field to take on Catholic with face-off set for 4 pm.
